NRG is a global insights and strategy firm solving big problems for global clients. They approached us with a simple need — they wanted people to spend time with their research.
Our response was Boundless, a beautifully printed journal featuring over 80 pages of original reporting, data-led essays, and interactive visuals by writers and artists whose work has appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and more.
The journal was carefully packaged and distributed to industry leaders and influential thinkers. Designed to stand out in a digital world, it invites attention, encourages exploration, and rewards repeat visits.
The cover features an original piece by 3D artist Phil Armson, which acts as an augmented reality experience. Readers can unlock additional content throughout the publication by scanning specific spreads with their phones, bringing animations and visual layers to life.
We translated complex data into compelling information design, making the research more engaging and accessible without diluting its depth. The result is a printed object that reflects NRG’s ambition and clarity of thought—elevating research into something immersive, generous, and built to last.
To support the editorial content, we commissioned a global roster of photographers and illustrators. Each story was art directed to suit its subject, from the future of women’s sports to Gen Z’s expectations of the workplace. The design system pairs these narratives with contemporary typography and a forward-looking visual tone.
Why call it Boundless? As NRG CEO, Jon Penn, explains:
"When the world shut down, at first, our lives got smaller. But then something changed. Technology connected us. People were free to work from anywhere. Old boundaries and limitations began to disappear. Leading an incredible group of people through history has changed me. And it has changed NRG. The old limitations no longer apply.
Our future is Boundless."
