A celebration of place, people, and the power of storytelling — North Norway is the debut book from Fare, spanning four years and over a thousand miles across the Arctic north.
We were invited to design a publication that could carry the depth and scale of the stories within — a visual journey through sun and snow, culture and landscape, family and tradition.
The title typeface was created exclusively for this project. Inspired by historic Norwegian books uncovered during our research travels, the letterforms were redrawn and brought back to life to lend the book its distinct, rooted character.
With contributions from a wide range of voices, our challenge was to bring cohesion to the diversity of content. Subtle shifts in colour palette, typographic accents, and layout systems allow each section to breathe independently while still belonging to the wider whole.
Partnering with long-term collaborator Liz Seabrook, we art directed the photography throughout — developing an image-led narrative that moves with the seasons and reflects the shifting tone of each chapter.
We also commissioned Norwegian illustrator and printmaker Anine Hansen to create a series of artworks that introduce each chapter. These illustrations act as poetic interludes, each one tuned to the themes and emotions of the stories that follow.
Large in format and generous in scale, North Norway is a publication designed to be lived with — a tactile object that invites repeat visits and long reads. A book made to linger on the coffee table, and in memory.
